Excessive heat impacts Portsmouth.

City Activates Cooling Stations

Due to the excessive outside temperatures that are expected to continue until Monday, the City of Portsmouth will activate some of the “Cool City” Cooling Stations each day until Monday, July 22. IThe Cooling Station that will be open on Sunday, July 21, will be at the Human Services Building- Department of Social Services – located at 1701 High Street. For the complete list of cooling stations, visit portsmouthva.gov (news releases and/or Alerts).

Portsmouth Named Finalist

The PR News Group, publishers of prnewsonline and the go-to source for communications and public relations professionals, announced last week that the City of Portsmouth has been selected as a finalist in the 2019 PRNEWS’ Platinum PR Awards competition, community engagement category, for its police lip-sync challenge video. The Portsmouth project team members have been invited to the annual Platinum PR Awards Dinner Gala Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, at the Grand Hyatt New York.

2019 NOFA Solicits Applications

The Portsmouth Continuum of Care (CoC) – Portsmouth Homeless Action Consortium (PHAC) -- is soliciting new and renewal project applications for inclusion in the CoC’s annual submission to the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) CoC competitive grant program. Eligible applicants include public housing authorities and units of local government, eligible nonprofit organizations with demonstrated capacity to manage federal grant funding and have participated in the CoC for one year prior to the application deadline of September 30, 2019. City Rolls Out New Engagement Tool

Join your neighbors and city officials for a Chat, Chew and You event Sat., July 20, from noon to 3 p.m., at Woodrow Wilson High School, 1401 Elmhurst Lane. Chat, Chew & You is designed as a quality of life engagement opportunity with and for the Portsmouth community. The Chat, Chew and You mission is to build trust and create partnerships with the community in an effort to enhance residents’ quality of life and for the community-at-large.
