The Department of Public Works Street Sweeping Division completed the third round of scheduled street sweeping on September 27. The team collected over three million pounds of debris from City streets from April 2019 to September 2019. That is three million pounds of debris that did not go into the storm drains, ditches, or the Elizabeth River.
The Street Sweeping Program is part of the City’s Stormwater Management Plan. All City-maintained streets with curbs and gutters are swept three times a year between April and October. In addition, from October to March, the Street Sweeping crews will be sweeping the City at least two more times as weather conditions allow. The scheduled street sweeping of neighborhoods will resume in April 2020 with the schedule posted to the City’s social media pages and website.
