Are You Naughty or Nice When It Comes to Eco-friendly Holiday Packaging?

Just a friendly reminder from our friends at askHRgreen.org about recycling those holiday packaging materials. It’s that time of year! The askHRgreen.org elves have been making a list and checking it twice—to see who is naughty or nice when it comes to eco-friendly holiday packaging. Every bit you do, from shopping with reusable totes to using gift wrap and containers of your own creation, contributes to a healthy Hampton Roads community.

Vintage Tech and the New Generation

Comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres recently produced a most interesting and funny segment for her talk show. In the segment, she selects a millennial from the studio audience. The millennial is faced with "old tech" including a boom box, a rotary phone, 35 mm camera, a typewriter and other objects from the not-so-distant-past. The millennial is asked to operate those items and the segment is absolutely hilarious. In Portsmouth, there are a couple of places where you can still view vintage tech . . .

Shipyard Season's Greetings at the Naval Shipyard Museum

This year at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum, we have our own representation of the delights of Christmas. Our temporary photograph display offers a small collection of vintage images of Christmas decorations installed instead against the industrial backdrop of Norfolk Naval Shipyard. These 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s photographs offer the contrast of seasonal celebrations with the workaday setting of a military installation. Bring your entire family out for this rare collection of vintage photographs and images of a bygone Christmas era.
