Welcome to the City of Portsmouth Mosquito Control.  Our mission is to insure public health and safety by means of an integrated pest management strategy towards mosquito control.  The City of Portsmouth uses a variety of methods and techniques to reduce or eliminate potential breeding sources for juvenile and adult mosquitoes.  Our team is dedicated to not only making Portsmouth a fun and exciting city to spend time outdoors safely, but also recognizes the importance of being environmental stewards towards the city's natural resources.

Craney Island Spraying

Aerial Spraying Contract with Army Corps approved for 2019.  These spraying operations will assist Portsmouth in it's efforts to control juvenile and adult mosquitoes in the immediate areas of Craney Island. For details, click on this here.

Free Mosquito Control Workshop

The City of Portsmouth Mosquito Control Division will be holding a free workshop on June 8, 2019 at Paradise Creek Park.  This class will involve general information about mosquitoes, and a hand's on demonstration about what citizens can do around their homes to help make their summers enjoyable.  To sign up for the class, click here.

Beekeeper Information

The City of Portsmouth understands the vital role that bee's have as pollinators.  Please help us keep the bees safe by informing us where there are hives located within city limits.  This information will be used by our department to create a buffer zone around hives to ensure that no harm is done.

Hive Locations should be called in at 757-393-8666.

The City of Portsmouth utilizes an Integrated Pest Management approach to mosquito control.  This means that we use multiple methodologies and tactics to reduce or eliminate mosquito problems within the city.  Trapping, Identification, and Larval Surveillance are just some of the methods used.
