Q. Can I register to Vote in Virginia?
A. Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen, your home is in Virginia and you are 18 years of age or older. If you will be 18 by the next General Election, you can register when you are 17. You first must have your voting rights restored if you are convicted of a felony, or if you are found mentally incompetent by a circuit court.

Q. When can I register?
A. Anytime of the year.
General or Primary Elections require 22 days and Special Elections require 13 days prior registration in order to be qualified to vote.

Q. Where can I register?
A. Citizens may apply to register to vote by mail, in any Virginia voter registration office, or at special registration sites, i.e. the Department of Motor Vehicles and/or any Public Assistance agency. Citizens may also visit the Department of Elections website, www.sbe.virginia.gov, and submit an application online.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. Voter Registration is FREE.

Q. What should I do if I have changed my name or my local address?
A. You can change your status by completing the back of your voter card either by mail or in person, sending a letter notifying the Office of the General Registrar, completing a form at the Department of Motor Vehicles, or you may also visit the Department of Elections website, www.sbe.virginia.gov and submit an application online.
