THE BUZZ

Volume 6, 23   (Week 40)

October 3, 2007

Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
  • This is the only issue of the Buzz for the month of October unless conditions dramatically change over the next few weeks. The dry conditions are greatly limiting the amount of mosquito activity in our area at this time. Overall mosquito activity remains a 2, the mosquito activity will not fall below a 2 until day time temperatures are consistently below 55 degrees (usually mid December).
Surveillance
  • Most areas recorded less than 4 tenths of an inch of rain for the entire month of September.
  • 5 CDC style traps were set this week, with a total of 16 mosquitoes caught for an average of 3 per trap. CDC trapping will be discontinued until in rains.
  • 9 Omni-Directional Fay-Prince (OFP) were set this week, with a total of 177 tiger mosquitoes for an average of 20 per trap. Tiger mosquitoes were up slightly this week. Tiger mosquitoes will continue to be a moderate problem for the next few weeks.
Weekly Average City-wide Asian Tiger Mosquito Counts

Control Efforts
  • Only 994 acres were truck fogged this week. Limited truck fogging will be conducted in areas on an as needed basis (areas scheduled for spraying will be posted on the spray hotline 393-8666 press 1 when prompted).
The end of season report will be posted as soon a trapping and spray operations are completed for this season.
