Volume 6, 21   (Week 37)

September 13, 2007

Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
  • Tiger mosquitoes are the only significant mosquito problem in the city right now. Overall mosquito activity is a 2 citywide. Tropical rain and cold fronts are in the near forecast; any rain with these systems could cause mosquitoes to increase.
Surveillance
  • Only trace amounts of rain were recoded at a few locations in the city last week.
  • 5 CDC style traps were set this week, with a total of 51 mosquitoes caught for an average of 10 per trap. Trap counts decreased for a second week.
  • 18 Omni-Directional Fay-Prince (OFP) were set this week, with a total of 533 tiger mosquitoes for an average of 30 per trap. Tiger mosquitoes dropped slightly this week.
Weekly Average City-wide Asian Tiger Mosquito Counts
Service Requests
  • We had 3 service requests this week; all calls this week were from tiger mosquitoes.
Control Efforts
  • The spray crew has been actively treating storm drains and catch basins in the city this week.
  • We truck fogged approximately 1,800 acres this week. No truck spray operations are scheduled for this weekend in anticipation of poor weather conditions.
