| Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5) |
- Trap counts were low again this week due to the dry conditions.
The only significant increase this week was from tiger mosquitoes in
a few spots.
- Although mosquito trap counts are low the overall mosquito
activity remains at a 2 this week due to the horse testing positive
for Eastern Equine Encephalitis in Suffolk, and mosquitoes testing
positive in Suffolk and Chesapeake around the Great Dismal Swamp.
- No mosquito samples have been sent for testing this year in
Portsmouth due to the low trap counts, we have not trapped enough
mosquitoes to send for testing this year.
|
| Surveillance |
- Rainfall was minimal last week and there is still very little
standing water in the city. The average rainfall last week was .83
inches. Some areas received close to an inch of rain last week.
- 5 CDC style traps were set this week, with a total of 82
mosquitoes caught for an average of 16 per trap. CDC trap counts
were about the same as last week.
- 19 Omni-Directional Fay-Prince (OFP) were set this week, with a
total of 342 tiger mosquitoes for an average of 18 per trap. Tiger
mosquito dropped slightly this week, with the exception of a few hot
spots.

 |
| Service Requests |
- We had 1 service call this week. This brings the total for the
year to 20 calls.
|
| Control Efforts |
- The isolated rain showers have kept crews busy checking areas
for standing water. Most all areas have dried up in less than 5 days
preventing mosquitoes from emerging.
- Crews treated 2,796 acres with truck sprayers for adult
mosquitoes earlier this week.
