THE BUZZ

Volume 6, 8   (Week 24)

June 14, 2007

Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
  • Trap counts this week were lower than expected with all the rain the previous week. Cooler temperatures and high winds may have kept trap counts low this week. Trap counts are expected to increase next week.
Surveillance
  • There is minimal standing water in the city as most areas have dried out from the recent rain.
  • We conducted normal trapping schedule for this week 5 CDC, 20 OFP.
  • 5 CDC style traps were set this week, with a total of 346 mosquitoes caught, for an average of 70 per trap down from over 200 per trap last week.
  • 20 Omni-Directional Fay-Prince (OFP) were set this week, two traps failed due to mechanical failure. The other 18 trap nights caught 61 tiger mosquitoes for an average of 4 per trap. The map indicates only the mosquitoes caught on Monday.
Service Requests
  • We had 2 service requests this week; both were requests to check standing water.
Control
  • Spray crews truck fogged for adult mosquitoes around 800 acres this week.
  • Mosquito control staff have worked to treat road side ditches and storm drain catch basins all week.
