| Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5) |
- The city received 0.04 inches of rain last week. Hot and dry
conditions have continued, and mosquito breeding sites are
decreasing as a result.
- Mosquito activity remains a 2 for most of the city.
- The only major mosquito problem at this time is caused by tiger
mosquitoes. The only way to reduce tiger mosquito populations is to
get rid of the breeding habitat. Citizens must do their part to
control mosquitoes by keeping rain gutters, bird baths, flower pot
saucers, kid toys, old tires, etc. clean and dry.
|
| Surveillance |
- 10 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 554
mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 55 per trap. This is one
of the lowest trap counts in the past 10 weeks.
- 7 Gravid style traps were set this week, a total of 150
mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 21 per trap.
- Hot dry conditions will further reduce the number of adult
mosquitoes around.
- No mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile Virus
this year.
|
| Service Requests |
- We received 2 complaint calls this week.
|
| Control |
- Crews applied a barrier treatment to the Rotunda/Crystal Lakes
area and around the ball fields and Churchland High School. This was
to combat the high numbers of mosquitoes caught in the nearby traps
from the past two weeks.
- Crews are also continuing to treat any remaining standing water,
including ditches, storm drains, and catch basins.
- Truck fogging will be done as mosquito activity and weather
conditions permit.
- Mosquito Spraying information is posted on the Mosquito Spray
Hotline at 393-8666.
