| Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5) |
- Finally, relief from the rain. The city received 0.32 inches of
rain last week. Many of the areas that were flooded from the heavy
rains over the past two weeks are finally drying up.
- Mosquito activity remains a 2 for most of the city. We still
have some problem areas on the city’s margins where mosquito numbers
are significantly higher.
- Remember, we need your help in keeping your yards free of
containers that hold water. This type of mosquito will continue to
be our major problem for the city. You must keep your yards and
gutters free of water.

| Surveillance |
- 10 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 1,427
mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 142 per trap. Trap counts
decreased slightly from last week.
- 7 Gravid style traps were set this week, a total of 423
mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 60 per trap. We saw a
major increase in gravid trap counts this week.
- Eight mosquito pools were sent for West Nile Virus (WNV) testing
this week. All were negative for WNV.
- Mosquito breeding this week includes containers (birdbaths,
flowerpots, clogged rain gutters and drains, buckets, tarps, etc.),
roadside ditches, and deeper ground depressions.
|
| Service Requests |
- We received 2 complaint calls this week. We anticipate calls to
increase as container breeding mosquitoes become more of a problem
for residents.
|
| Control |
- Crews truck fogged a total of 9,099.7 acres last week. We are
continuing to monitor adult mosquito populations and will truck fog
when needed.
- An aerial contractor treated 100 acres of back ditches, standing
water, and depressions throughout the city. This was the second of
three planned larviciding operations scheduled for the city.
- Mosquito Spraying information is posted on the Mosquito Spray
Hotline at 393-8666.
