Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)

Mosquito activity is a 1 the city. Activity will remain at a 1 until day and nighttime temperatures fall constantly below 55 degrees. Most of the potential mosquitoes breeding sites in the city are dry; we are not finding any mosquito breeding in the few sites that are still wet. Citizens should continue to wear long sleeve, loose fitting, light colored clothing and insect repellant when temperatures are above 55 degrees to prevent mosquito bites.

Surveillance

Trapping has met with mixed results the last three weeks as temperatures fluctuate. As a result trapping for 2005 has concluded. This season we trapped a total of 285 CDC and 144 Gravid trap nights for a total of 429 trap nights. We trapped and identified 44,371 mosquitoes comprising of 26 different mosquito species. A total of 3,221 mosquitoes were sent in 78 mosquito pools for virus testing. Only two mosquito pools tested positive for Easter Equine Encephalitis (EEE). There were no West Nile Virus (WNV) positive mosquito pools.

Adult Control Efforts

We truck fogged 68,440 acres for adult mosquitoes.

There was only one Air Force Aerial Spray Flight; approximately 5,800 acres were sprayed.

Complaint Calls

This season we received 162 complaint calls, this is well below the average number of complaint calls we normally see each year. See the attached map for complaint call distribution.
