Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)

• Trap counts this week dropped. Mosquito activity is a (2) this week.
• We received over 7 inches of rain last week. This has the potential to cause dramatic increases in the mosquito populations mid to late next week. We are doing everything we can to minimize the increase in mosquito populations.

Surveillance

• 9 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 334 mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 38 per trap. Trap counts decreased again this week.
• 7 Gravid traps were set this week, a total of 66 mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 10 per trap. Gravid trap counts dropped this week.

Control

• Mosquito truck fogging was conducted in the entire city last week. These efforts will only provide temporary relief from adult mosquitoes.
• Crews are working to treat standing water city wide from last weeks rain.
• Citizens must constantly check for and remove items (birdbaths, buckets, cans, flower pots, rain gutters, corrugated drains, etc.) holding water on their properties. The only want to eliminate these mosquitoes is to eliminate the water.

Federal Activity

• Army Corps staff will be monitoring areas on wet areas on Craney Island to determine the need for larval treatments.
