Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)

  • Mosquito activity increased this week to a 2 for the entire city.

Surveillance

  • 10 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 3,118 mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 312 per trap. Trap counts were up this week compared to last week. The bulk of the increase was at the city landfill trap location. Mosquito migration from the landfill area could cause traps at the high school and Long Point to increase next week.
  • 7 Gravid traps were this week, a total of 81 mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 12 per trap. This was slightly lower than last week. Gravid traps normally start increasing in mid to late July.
  • Rain this week has been minimal; no increases in mosquitoes are forecast for next week unless we receive significant rainfall from tropical systems this weekend.

Service Requests

  • No mosquito complaint calls were received this week.

Control

  • Most roadside ditches are dry at this time. Crews are treating catch basins, roadside and back ditches citywide.
  • Weather permitting limited truck fogging will be conducted as needed.
  • Mosquito Spraying information is posted on the Mosquito Spray Hotline at 393-8666.
