Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)

  • Mosquito activity appears to be stabilizing citywide activity is a 2. We continue to see isolated areas with higher activity (3) around the Portsmouth Landfill and Rotunda.
  • With the hot and dry conditions forecast mosquito activity should start to decease.

Surveillance

  • 11 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 4,169 mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 379 per trap. Average trap counts were up slightly this week.
  • 8 Gravid traps were this week, a total of 169 mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 21 per trap.
  • Larval activity is wide spread containers and ditches are the primary breeding areas

Service Requests

  • We received 4 complaint calls about mosquitoes; all were reports of standing water.

Control

  • Adult spray operations are scheduled for some of the city. Crews will treat as much as we can each day. Mosquito Truck Fogging can only be conducted when winds are less than 10 miles per hour and there is no rain.
  • Mosquito Spraying information is posted on the Mosquito Spray Hotline at 393-8666.

Special Note

  • Mosquito control staff will be at Hoffler’s Creek off of Twin Pines Road this Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. We will have mosquito control equipment, insect repellant, and educational materials on display.
