Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
- Mosquito activity is a 1 for most of the city. Areas in Cradock,
Rotunda Blvd, and the Portsmouth Landfill continue to see increasing
mosquito activity, currently a (3). We are also starting to see Asian
Tiger mosquitoes in the light traps, citizens must remember to dump out
water around the house each week.
- Weather conditions have significantly hampered our ability to
effectively treat areas. City staff will resume aggressive treatment
measures when weather conditions stabilize this weekend.
Surveillance
- 9 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 3,717
mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 413 per trap. Trap counts were
up almost 3 times what we caught last week.
- We started setting gravid traps for mosquitoes this week. Gravid
traps are deigned to trap mosquitoes trying to lay eggs. 3 gravid traps
caught a total of 78 mosquitoes, or average of 26 per trap. This is
normal for this time of year.
Service Requests
- We received 5 complaint calls this week about mosquitoes. Complaints
might increase next week as warmer temperatures stabilize.
Control
- Adult spray operations are scheduled for this weekend as soon as the
weather breaks. Mosquito Truck Fogging can only be conducted when winds
are less than 10 miles per hour and there is no rain.
- Crews will be treating standing water early next week
- Mosquito Spraying information is posted on the Mosquito Spray
Hotline at 393-8666.
