Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)

  • Mosquito activity is a 1 for most of the city. Activity is still elevated (at a 2) in some isolated spots (see attached map). Wooded areas around Rotunda Blvd and Mayflower Road are starting to see improvement. Areas in North Churchland are progressively getting worse each week.

Surveillance

  • Ten CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 1,165 mosquitoes were caught. The average number of mosquitoes per trap was 117 this was up from an average of 77 last week. The average number mosquitoes caught per trap this is slightly skewed due to localized hot spots of activity.
  • We received less than 2 inches of rain last week and many areas have already dried up. We do not anticipate any significant mosquito increases due to last weeks rain.

Service Requests

  • We only received two complaint calls late this week. One from Churchland and one from Park Manor.

Control

  • Staff continues to systematically inspecting and treating potential mosquito breeding sites thought the city. Current efforts are focusing on treating stromwater catch basins. This week 275 catch basins were treated in the Craddock area of the city.
  • Limited truck fogging will be conducted earlier this week along wooded areas with the highest trap counts as weather conditions permit.
