Divisions

Administration & Engineering Office

This division supports, leads, and directs the Department’s operational divisions and provides project design, construction management and contract administration for the Department’s construction projects. It maintains records of underground water and sewage main locations.

Customer Service Office
8 am – 5 pm, Mon. thru Fri.

This division serves the customers of the utility by reading meters, providing bills for services rendered, collecting revenue, answering questions about accounts, and providing other customer related services.

Field Operations Division
7:30 am – 4 pm, Mon. thru Fri.

This division operates and maintains Portsmouth’s water transmission and distribution system, which includes fire hydrants, valves, water tanks, water mains, and water pumping stations. This division also operates and maintains the city’s sewage collection system and transmission system, which consists of sewage mains, manholes, and sewage pumping stations. Field Operations provides a 24-hr emergency response for water and sewer related problems in the Public Utilities owned systems.

This division is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and protection of the Department’s water resources (reservoirs, deep wells, watershed, forestry and fishing programs and the water treatment plant) and for insuring the production and delivery of high quality drinking water through its water quality programs (laboratory, testing, monitoring, and backflow and cross-connection prevention).
