SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS/NARCOTICS UNIT

The Special Investigations Unit is dedicated to the thorough and objective investigation of all narcotics related complaints / activities within the City of Portsmouth. All investigators are committed to providing a high quality of service to our citizens, other government agencies and all law enforcement agencies.

Our goals include:

  • To create a less attractive atmosphere and fewer opportunities to sell and purchase drugs in Portsmouth.
  • To increase citizen satisfaction with police efforts at stemming the drug trade while decreasing citizen complaints.
  • To more effectively identify and seize drug-related assets.

The Special Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating illegal drug activity occurring in houses, apartments, businesses and other buildings. In addition, the unit investigates prescription fraud, pornography, film pirating and other crimes requiring lengthy investigations. The unit is also responsible for investigating applications for licenses to sell alcoholic beverages in the city.

If you are witnessing a drug transaction in progress, please call 911.
