PLANNING AND ANALYSIS DIVISION

The Planning and Analysis Division leads the agency in technological innovations, grants management, crime analysis, policy development and overall agency strategic planning.

Crime Analysis Unit

Conducts criminal intelligence and statistical analysis to serve the department’s operational and administrative needs utilizing a wide range of analytical tools and techniques, to include: next-hit predictions, criminal activity tracking/forecasting, summary statistics, link analyses, net worth assessments, criminal investigative analyses, psychological profiling, and geographical crime-mapping.

Grants Unit

Proactively seeks out, develops, acquires and manages alternative funding opportunities through public and private grants to supplement the Police Department budget in obtaining necessary personnel and equipment to further enhance our department’s capabilities.

Policy and Accreditation Unit

Reviews, revises, maintains and distributes the Police Department Policy Manual. The unit continuously reviews agency policy to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local laws, and, as the agency moves towards accreditation, with Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC) requirements.

Technical Services Unit

Acquires and maintains state-of-the-art technology for all areas of law enforcement. From mobile computers to high-speed access to criminal information, the unit maintains the cutting edge in law enforcement technology to assist in accomplishing the Police Department’s mission. The Technical Services Unit is also responsible for the Police Department's website, Police Department Intranet and mobile connectivity from the police departments patrol units.  The TSU also supports departmental functions with video and photography support as well as technical guidance on technology purchases and employment.
