NOTICE TO OUR CITIZENS
(How to
File a Complaint)
Every unit of government needs to have
someone inspecting their performance. The Professional Standards Unit
ensures that all Portsmouth Police Officers are effective and efficient in
providing their public services, in a manner of dignity and integrity.
Citizens have contact with our officers
daily. If you feel you have been treated well please let us know!!!
Conversely, if you feel you have not been treated fairly or properly, you do
have a right to have the incident investigated. You may contact a Police
Supervisor who will assist you with your complaint, or you may also file a
formal complaint with the Professional Standards Unit.
You may download a complaint form via the
Internet by accessing:
http://www.portsmouthpd.org/CitizenComplaintForm.pdf. Forms are also
available during normal business hours at the Professional Standards Unit
office or from any Police Supervisor. The form must be mailed, faxed or hand
carried to the Professional Standards Unit or submitted to a Police
Supervisor.
Please keep in mind that the complaint
process includes a formal interview with an investigator.
