CRIME PREVENTION
The Crime Prevention Unit is supervised by a sergeant and is staffed by two civilian crime prevention specialists.
They are responsible for initiating and overseeing many crime prevention and safety and education programs designed to lessen the chances that our businesses and citizens become victims of crime. The Crime Prevention Unit also administers our
Volunteers in Policing Program. This program provides opportunities for citizens to volunteer their time in varied support assignments within the police department.

Business Alert Network - As part of
efforts in recognizing that businesses are often targets of crime, an informal
informational network was created in August of 2003 to notify Portsmouth
Businesses of criminal activities affecting businesses, potential risk and

has proven to be a valuable means of communicating information that is directly
related to the business community. To sign up for this service please
