I would like the opportunity to welcome you to
the Portsmouth Police “Business Alert Network.”
The Business Alert Network’s goal is to serve somewhat as an informational tool
to alert you to criminal activities such as robberies and burglaries that may
occur to a business. This alert system is not limited to these two categories,
but will also be utilized in conjunction with members of our Criminal
Investigations Unit and other members of our force to supply you with
information that possibly could prevent or even solve a crime.
In the near future you should start receiving these alerts through Internet mail
on a weekly, monthly, or possibly on a daily basis dependent upon the level of
activity that our city is experiencing.
The system is directed at informing, making contact and decreasing criminal
activities to our businesses while sending a message to those who commit crimes
that Portsmouth is no easy pickings.
This system is not intended to be a method for filing a report. I would like to
encourage all to continue utilizing 911 for emergencies and 393-5300 for
non-emergency reports. It is very important to continue using these numbers for
reporting purposes.
I would like to however, invite you to send us feedback. One of the many goals
of the Crime Prevention Unit is to reach as many folks as we can through mail,
in-person talks/training, and presentation of Crime Prevention
Programs/Materials while listening to what your needs may be.
I am very excited for this opportunity and would like to encourage you to tell a
business friend about these efforts. I would like to make this into a citywide
program to strengthen the contact between the police and businesses.
