Welcome to the Portsmouth Police Department's
Police Service Area (PSA) website! This portion of our website will help
explain Police Service Areas and hopefully encourage interaction between you,
our citizens, and us, your police department.
This portion of the website will explain PSAs and
give you the opportunity to communicate with your PSA Supervisor.

Accountability
PSA Sergeant
- Supervises Neighborhood Impact Officers
- Coordinates problem solving activities in the
PSA through assessment, action, planning and evaluation
- Reviews crime data and other information for
the PSA, analyze and identify crime patterns for the purpose of
problem solving and evaluation
- Ensure effective communication for collection
and dissemination of information with the community and other
police and city agency personnel ("The Wire")
- Identify, secure, and distribute resources
for effective operation of the PSA
Police Liasions
- Communicate information about the PSA
back to their respective unit as well as information from
the unit to the PSA Team Members
- Report to immediate supervisor to
coordinate unit activities identified at PSA meetings
and report the status back to the PSA Team
- For Uniform Patrol - they will maintain
PSA integrity by spending unassigned time actively working
in their assigned PSA
- Be knowledgeable of community concerns,
resources, and crime patterns within the assigned area
- Regularly review the information on the
PSA intranet, “The Wire,” and add pertinent information when
it becomes available
- Attend scheduled PSA meetings and attend
occasional community meetings upon request
-=The Wire=-
-=The Wire=- is an internal electronic
messaging system and bulletin board. It is accessible
to all department personnel assigned to a PSA.
Information is shared in "posts" or bulletins posted by the
officers and read by all other members of the PSA and
department. -=The Wire=- is not accessible from
outside the department and is designed solely as a means of
communication between officers in the PSA.
