A joint program sponsored by Virginia Tech, Virginia State University,
the U.S. Department of Agriculture and state and local governments.
Extension provides educational programs conducted in the workplace,
schools, and communities in VA. Extension agents teach people innovative
ways to solve problems and use researched-based information from Virginia
Tech and Virginia State Universities. We are located at 105 Utah Street

Commercial and Environmental Horticulture
Educational information about horticultural topics is available to
homeowners and industry professionals.

Family Consumer Sciences
Family Consumer Sciences emphasize appropriate and safe food and nutrition
choices, encourage physical activity, and improve health literacy. The
goal is to intervene early to prevent families from becoming at-risk.
Areas of focus:
- Healthy eating, meal planning and food selection, including food
budgeting
- Food Safety
- Smart Choices Nutrition Education Program focuses on limited
resource adults with children teaching basic nutrition. This series of
classes assist families in adopting health eating habits and lifestyles.

4-H Youth Development
4-H is the comprehensive youth development program of Virginia Cooperative
Extension. Youth from ages 5 to 18 engage in hands-on and researched based
learning experiences under the guidance of 4-H agents and trained adult or
teen 4-H volunteers. Young people learn life skills thought their
involvement in 4-H programs. Youth can participate in 4-H though
enrichment programs, community clubs, after- school programming and
camping. If interested in becoming a 4-H member or Adult volunteer please
