First Weekend Series at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum
On Saturday, March 7, 2009, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum will be commemorating the Battle of Hampton Roads, which occurred during March of 1862 between the USS MONITOR and the CSS VIRGINIA. The program, IRONCLADS!, will take place from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Visitors to the museum will be able to learn about this famous battle and the construction of ironclads. Visitors will also be able to make their own models of the USS MONITOR or the CSS VIRGINIA. As part of the Portsmouth Museumsí First Weekend Series, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum and activities will be free and open to the public on Saturday, March 7th.
