Portsmouth - Portsmouth streets will be closed on Saturday morning for a few hours to allow the 60th anniversary Shriner’s Fish Bowl Parade to pass through. The parade route begins at 10 a.m. at London Blvd. and Peninsula Ave., right on Effingham Street, left on County and a final left ending on Crawford Street. Several downtown side streets will close as well for the safety of passersby and parade participants. The events should wrap up in about two hours.
The historic parade is a Portsmouth tradition and serves as a precursor to the 2007 Fish Bowl Classic football game between Norfolk State University and Bethune-Cookman University that will occur later in the day at 4 p.m. at the William “Dick” Price Stadium in Norfolk. This event is a charity event for the Shriners with all proceeds being donated to the Norfolk State University Athletic Foundation; Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters Neonatal Unit; the American Heart Association and the Imperial Council of the Shriners. Tickets can be obtained from Fran’s Fashions, 323 High Street, in downtown Portsmouth and the NSU Ticket Office (757) 823-9009.
