The Naval Shipyard Museum at #2 High St. in Olde Towne Portsmouth, has been forced to close until
5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, due to water damage caused by recent storms.

As a result, the progressive reception planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Naval Shipyard Museum, the Courthouse Galleries and the Visual Arts Center – TCC at Olde Towne will not be held.

Additionally, colonial activities for kids, originally scheduled for Aug. 4 at the Naval Shipyard Museum, will still occur at the Lightship PORTSMOUTH Museum.

The Naval Shipyard Museum will re-open at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 for the Olde Towne Business Association’s “First Friday” monthly event, a stage for local art galleries and museums to host receptions and exhibit openings.

At this time, the exhibit “Buildingways of Democracy: Portsmouth and Gosport” will open at the Naval Shipyard Museum. This exhibit focuses on the history of Portsmouth and the Gosport Navy Yard, the developing relationship between the two, and their collective role in the growth of America from 1785 through 1840.
