A special program: 2 Cities, 2 Wars, will begin at 7:00 pm. Billie Montgomery Cook and Alan Gollihue are both Portsmouth natives, the former grew up in Truxtun and the later in Cradock. Both will be on hand to share their experiences and insights on these historic districts that flourished and grew out of the war effort during the early 1900s. The history of World War I and World War II will be discussed, as well as developments afterwards, including changes that have occurred recently. This program highlights the exhibit Growing Up Together: Portsmouth and the Navy Yard during the World Wars, 1914-1945, which tells the story of the private and government communities that developed side-by-side along the mouth of the Elizabeth River. The exhibit continues through October 7, 2007. For more information, please call the Courthouse Galleries at (757) 393-8543.
