David Wright of the Mets will be the special guest speaker at this year's Student Athlete Achievement Dinner on December 17th.
(Portsmouth, VA) The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame is seeking nominations from across Hampton Roads for the 2006 Hall of Fame Student Athlete Achievement Awards. The awards will be presented at a special banquet on December 17th featuring guest speaker David Wright, of the New York Mets.
The awards are to honor young people dedicated on the field to their sport and off the field to academics and their community, as nominated by teachers, coaches and parents. Finalists will be selected from among applicants in four awards categories (boys ages 8-13, girls 8-13, boys 14-18 and girls 14-18). Four finalists from each category will be invited to the annual banquet and will receive special prize packages. One individual from each category will be announced that night as the Student Athlete of the Year and be featured in a special display at the Hall of Fame.
The 2006 Hall of Fame Student Athlete Achievement Awards is presented with support from WTVZ-TV, Velocity Sports Performance, MRI-CT Diagnostics, and Wild Wing Café.
The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum was established in 1972 and honors Virginia's rich sports traditions as the official hall for the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 2005, the Hall of Fame opened its new, state-of-the-art, interactive family attraction in Downtown Portsmouth.
