The City of Portsmouth now offers volunteer opportunities in many areas of City Government.

These opportunities will allow volunteers to make rewarding contributions to the community while meeting new people and gaining valuable work experience.

WHY VOLUNTEER?

• Volunteering can help bring a sense of fulfillment and meaning to one's daily routines.
• Volunteering is an opportunity to meet new and exciting people while building new skills or refining existing skills.
• Volunteering allows you to gain experience and exposure in an area/field of interest by experiencing first hand that particular field of work.
• It provides an opportunity to partner with the City to gain a greater understanding of our local government's resources, processes and limitations.

 Based on your interests, volunteer opportunities are available in various departments, such as:

• Behavioral Healthcare Services
• Community Relations and Leisure Services
• Human Resource Management
• Library
• Museums
• Police

Volunteer opportunities are available to individuals with the following skills, characteristics and attributes:

Customer Service Skills – Ability to assist customers in an efficient and courteous manner.

Office Skills – Such as typing, filing, copying and faxing.

Computer skills – Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.

Personality – Good disposition, patience, willingness and eagerness to help, and a positive attitude.

Commitment – Belief and dedication to work towards the City's vision and goals in a manner that demonstrates our values.
