Description:
The City of Portsmouth is seeking a motivated, self-starter to perform para-professional work assisting in planning, organizing, promoting and directing various library services available at a branch library. The incumbent will provide reader’s advisory services, technical and reference assistance to library patrons and primarily assist in the coordination of services provided for children and young adults. Participates in planning and presentation of story-telling and other programs for children. Provides reference assistance for patrons in person, via telephone, facsimile and e-mail; suggests resources in other libraries; provides Reader's Advisory services to patrons concerning choice of books or materials. Reads journals and recommends books for acquisition; purges collection of outdated materials. Night and weekend work will be required.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Library Science, Education or a related field; 3 to 5 years experience working in a library setting including computer operations or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
