Description:
The City of Portsmouth is seeking a motivated, self-starter to perform para-professional work to assist in the planning, organizing, promoting and directing of various library services available at a branch library. The incumbent will provide reader’s advisory services; provide technical and reference assistance to library patrons and primarily assist in the coordination of services provided for children and young adults. Participates in planning and presentation of story-telling and other programs for children. Provides reference assistance for patrons in person, via telephone, facsimile and e-mail; suggests resources in other libraries; provides Reader's Advisory services to patrons concerning choice of books or materials. Reads journals and recommends books for acquisition; purges collection of outdated materials. Night and weekend work will be required.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Library Science, Education or a related field; 3 to 5 years experience working in a library setting including computer operations or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
