Description:
The City of Portsmouth is seeking a financial professional to oversee the City’s accounting operations. Specific responsibilities include development and implementation of financial policies and procedures, internal and external financial reporting (including preparation of the CAFR), and monthly closing procedures. Also responsible for general supervision of accounting professionals, payroll and finance support functions. Expect comprehensive knowledge of governmental accounting, financial reporting and financial systems. Successful candidates should possess initiative, flexibility, strong verbal and written communication skills, and effective decision-making, analytical and time management skills. Must possess ability to motivate and train staff.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; 6 to 9 years of increasingly responsible financial accounting experience preferably in a government sector and 3 to 5 years supervisory experience, CPA, MBA or MSA advantageous.
