Application from our website or you may also obtain an application at any
local Virginia Employment Commission (VEC). Please ensure that you
completely fill in all information on the application so that your
application may be considered for your desired positions.
As you view our listings, please note that each of our positions includes
a “Closing Date” and an “Apply To” field, which indicates the deadline to
submit applications and where to submit them. If the position requires any
type of driver’s license, then you must apply for those positions at any
local Virginia Employment Commission (VEC).
For those positions that require applying to our Human Resource Management
Department, applications are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on the closing
date. For those positions that require applying to the Virginia Employment
Commission (VEC), applications are due no later than 4:30 p.m. on the
closing date. Please remember that applications must be received by these
deadlines rather than postmarked.
While we provide updated listings of our employment opportunities on a
weekly basis, the City of Portsmouth may close or withdraw any position
included in this listing at any time. If you are offered employment with
the City of Portsmouth, then you will be required to provide documentation
as proof that you are a United States citizen or a lawfully authorized
alien qualified to work in the United States prior to starting work with
us.
