NOTICE TO BONDING AGENTS
The mission and goal of Community Quality and Planning Standards is to vigorously serve the public and business community within the parameters provided by the City Code of Portsmouth. Accordingly, Article 1, Section 7-2 of the City Code requires that contractors, other than Class A, maintain on file a $5,000.00 bond when contracting for work in the City of Portsmouth.
To facilitate timely processing of the bonds by our legal department, the following guidelines are provided to assist you in completing the bond application:
- In the top right corner of the form enter the bond number on this line.
- Fill in the name of the contractor or company on this line, as it appears on the State Registration.
- If Individual or Partnership, Principal should read John Doe T/A Doe Builders.
- Type in the address of the contractor or company, including the zip code and the telephone number.
- The Surety’s name and address must appear in this section, including the zip code and telephone number.
- Fill in the date the bond is executed or issued.
- For Corporations only:
- The Principal Corporate name must be printed as it appears on the State Registration.
- The signatures for both the president and the secretary are required, along with their names typed below each signature.
- As for signatures:
- The required signatures must appear in this section for individuals and partnerships, with the name(s) typed below the signature(s).
- All signatures are required to have a witness' signature with their name(s) typed below their signature(s).

- The name of the Surety must appear on the line designated "Surety".
- The Attorney-In-Fact must sign his/her signature as it appears on hte Power of Attorney, with the name typed below the signature.
- Fill in the completed name and address of the issuing agent.
- An embossed seal or label seal is required on all completed bonds.
- The Power of Attorney must be attached to the completed bond.
