Fire Boat 1 will be docked at the Coast Guard Base in Portsmouth and can be deployed and responding to the scene of an incident within 15 minutes of receiving a call for help. Equipped with two Darley Fire Pumps, the Fire Boat can flow 3500gpm of water. Additionally, Fire Boat 1 can supply a 5” water supply hose to Fire Pumpers on land in order to augment the water supply available to the crews on land. It is also capable of assisting with suppression activities if the Fire Companies on land are having difficulty accessing a fire on the waterfront. Side Sweeping Sonar Technology has been purchased with additional grant money and has been added to the equipment on board. This equipment will enable crews to locate submerged victims, explosives or other difficult to locate items. Although designed primarily for Fire Suppression, Fire Boat 1 will also be equipped with Advanced Life Support equipment and staffed with a Paramedic when it is underway in order to respond to ill or injured victims on other craft or in the water.
