Greetings From The Director
Thank you for this opportunity to service your informational needs through
the web site for the Department of Economic Development. As you maneuver
through the various links,
I trust the data and material satisfy your inquiry.
The City of Portsmouth is experiencing an exciting period of renaissance and development. The combined
efforts of the Economic Development Department along with our development partners to include the Economic
Development Authority, the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority, The Portsmouth Partnership and others
have culminated in successful new business development. Projects such as the new private cargo terminal to be
owned and operated by APM Terminals Virginia, Inc. (Maersk/Sealand) will result in a $450 million investment
in the City and represents the 8th largest project announcement in the history of the Commonwealth.
Under the guidance and leadership of the City Council and the City Manager, the department continues its work to
cultivate new business activity and to support the expansion and
retention of existing businesses in the City. These
efforts will result in a stronger City fiscally and an improved quality of life for the citizens.
I would invite you to contact myself or a member of the Economic Development team if further assistance is needed.
I would encourage you to consider the City of Portsmouth, Virginia as a future location for your business' headquarters
or regional office. Thank you again for this opportunity to serve you.
Sincerely,
Steven L. Lynch
