The Honorable Nathan J. Clark
Nathan Clark was born and raised in the city of Portsmouth. Clark spent his younger years in Port Norfolk, attending Port Norfolk Elementary School. In his teen years, Clark spent his time in the halls of I. C. Norcom High School, graduating in 1987. In 2011, Clark received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Administration of Justice, graduating magna cum laude from TCC.
Clark has served Portsmouth under multiple capacities, including the sheriff’s office, the police department, and the fire department. Clark worked as a deputy sheriff until 1991 when he joined the Portsmouth Police Department. While on the police department, Clark served as a member of the Tactical Response Unit and the Strategic Traffic Unit. In 2002, Clark shifted his focus to the other side of the public safety spectrum and joined the Portsmouth Fire Department. Assignments included Ladder 1 and Engine 4, while serving as a member of the Technical Rescue Team. Additionally Clark served in The Virginia Army National Guard as a combat medic and received The Army Commendation Medal while on deployment.
Currently, he is employed as a marine police officer with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission. Clark is now responsible for patrolling our local waterways, search and rescue operations, and counter-terrorism efforts.
Nathan is the son of Lloyd Dan and Janice Ellen Clark. His father originally from Mississippi and his mother a lifelong resident of the city of Portsmouth. Nathan is the proud father of two boys. Daniel who is currently a senior at James Madison University. He will be receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies and is currently applying to graduate school to pursue a Master’s degree in Communication and Advocacy. Jacob who is currently serving our city as a Deputy with The Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office and plans to continue a career in law enforcement.
