Goals
The Mayor's Commission Aging works hand in hand with
Portsmouth' Senior Station. The Commission's goals are

To maintain and improve
quality of life for Portsmouth City's Senior
Citizens.

To provide a voice and forum
for announcing government and commercial
challenges to Portsmouth Senior Citizen's
quality of life.

To convene upon and reconcile
Senior Citizen concerns with related Portsmouth
City interests, activities, and initiatives and
to provide an opinion to the City Manager,
Mayor, and City Council on individual,
corporate, not-for-profit, or government
proposals to for those concerns requiring new
levels of support.

To operate the Commission as
a Project that has a defined start and stop
time, a Commissioner Chair, supporting
commissioners, City liaison, and measurable
objectives and Commissioner participation that
is defined anew each September and reported on
at mid-session in January and end of session in
June.
Membership
To ensure the Commission focuses on Portsmouth's Senior
Citizens, its membership is limited to Portsmouth, VA residents. Each
Commissioner is appointed by City Council for a three year term.
Commissioners are required to attend seven of nine regularly scheduled
meetings each session to remain active.
Meetings
Regular Commission meetings are convened promptly at 4PM the
second Thursday of each Month, starting in September. Portsmouth
residents are encouraged to attend each public meeting at Portsmouth's
Senior Station, 3500 Clifford St., Portsmouth, Virginia, 23707.
