These programs are designed for Kindergarten through Grade 5. They cover Force, Motion, and Energy K.3, 1.2, 2.2, 3.2, 4.2, and 5.2, and Matter 1.3 and 2.3. Several can be adapted to various age levels depending on students’ needs.
What’s a Magnet? - This program is geared for kindergarten and focuses on the K.3 SOL. The program investigates attraction, repelling, refrigerators and frying pans. It’s a great program to demonstrate the forces of magnetism.
On a Roll - Motion for first Grade covers SOL 1.2. Spinning wheels, rolling balls, and vibrating tuning forks explain the energy behind motion. Discover how to use this energy to make sound or keep balanced on your bike.
What’s the Matter? - Solids, liquids, and gases - matter is everywhere in everything. Learn all about the little stuff that makes up the big things. This program covers both first and second grade standards.
More Than Magnets - A program for second grade that picks up where What’s a Magnet? left off. In addition, the group discovers rare earth magnets, lodestones and electromagnets.
Simple Machines - This program covers SOL 3.2 on wedges, inclined planes, levers, wheels, pulleys and screws. We’ll talk about how they have been used throughout history and how we still use them today.
Energy & Forces - Geared toward fourth grade, we show that work is collecting more than a paycheck. The group will demonstrate how machines help us work. They’ll also discover the good, the bad, and the ugly on friction.
Sounding Out - The sound program focuses on fifth grade, covering waves, frequency, music and resonation. Sound is energy and the students will investigate what we need to make sound and how to make “noise.”
