Outreach Program
Our programs are hands-on, and students take an active part by helping the instructor perform the demonstrations. We recommend these programs for all types of learners and educational styles.
Preschool Programs:
These programs are engaging for 3-6 year olds and appeal to their wonder and curiosity. The children take an active role in the programs that are non-stop hands-on fun and learning!
“Andalo Series”
Andalo, a large stuffed doll representing the museum’s new mascot, is used to teach children of all ages about parts of the body and how to keep the body healthy.
Andalo and the Five Senses: Touch, see, smell, hear, and taste. Discover how we use all of our senses to understand the world around us.
Andalo - What’s Inside? : Do you ever wonder what happens to food once you chew it up? Discover the answer while you explore what is inside your body.
Life Cycles in Nature - Students participate in interactive demonstrations based on the needs of plants and animals. We explore life cycles of different organisms; act out the life cycle of a tree, and dance like honeybees.
Bubbles, Bubbles, Everywhere! - Create a bubble maker, blow some bubbles and see the amazing spheres of colors you can make.
Magnets For Beginners – Join a magnetic scavenger hunt! Try a little magnetic push and pull and discover what attracts and does not attract to magnets.
Cost: $55.00 for one 20-minute program. Max. 20 students per program. $45.00 each for two or more 20- minute programs. Max. 20 students per program.

Elementary Programs:
These programs are designed for Kindergarten through Grade 5.
Our programs are hands-on, & students are active by helping with the demonstrations. Many of our programs can be tailored to different age levels or to your students’ specific academic needs.
What’s a Magnet? - This introduction to magnets has student’s investigating the forces of magnetism like attract and repel, magnetic and nonmagnetic surfaces, and push and pull. Students will also discover some of the useful applications magnets have in their everyday lives. SOLs: K.1 K.2 K.3 K.4
On a Roll - Spinning wheels, rolling balls, and vibrating tuning forks explain the energy behind motion. Discover how to use this energy to make sound or even to keep balanced on your bike. SOLs: 1.1 1.2
What’s the Matter? - Solids, liquids, and gases oh my! This hands-on program will have students explore the properties of different forms of matter. Students will also experiment with how something as basic as water can change and affect different types of matter. SOLs: 1.1 1.3 2.1 2.3
More Than Magnets - So you think you know what a magnet looks like? Students will rediscover the forces of magnets using household materials like screws and batteries! Students will also learn about rare earth magnets, lodestones, and electromagnets. SOLs: 2.1 2.2
Our Community: Then and Now - Have your students experience hands-on-history! Using artifacts, old photos and puzzles, they will explore how technology, transportation and daily-life has changed in our community over time. SOL : 2.4
Simple Machines - Wedges, inclined planes, levers, wheels, pulleys, and screws; simple machines can be found everywhere! Students will learn about how they have been used throughout history and examine how we still use them today. SOLs: 3.1 3.2
Energy and Forces - Through mousetraps, hair-raising Van de Graaf generators, and marbles students will investigate force, energy, and motion. They will predict how energy and forces like friction affect motion. SOLs: 4.1 4.2 4.3
Sounding Out - Sound is energy and the students will investigate what we need to make sound and how to make “noise.” The sound program focuses on waves, frequency, music and resonation. SOLs: 5.1 5.2
Cost: $95.00 for one 40-minute program. Max. 25 students per program.
$85.00 for two or more 40 minutes programs. Max. 25 students per program.

OUTREACH CHECKLIST
• Please schedule no more than four of any one program per day.
• Remember that each program accommodates about 25 students.
• Please allow sufficient time for educators to re-set programs.
• Nametags would be helpful.
• Please provide a table for the educator’s use.
Contact the Education department a week prior to our visit with program schedule to include teacher’s names, grade level and room numbers.
