In an effort to raise awareness about the issues of mental health and the opioid crisis in the country, the Portsmouth Behavioral Healthcare Services agency held an Awareness Day for the community earlier in this year. The event included PDBHS resources on opioid, suicide and HIV/AIDS awareness, medical and community vendors, the spoken word, veteran peer services, yoga, wellness activities, and the Department of Social Services provided information on Medicaid.
The community event was open to the public with food and drinks available to all in attendance. The purpose of this event was to provide medical and wellness information, resources and best practices in a safe and sharing environment. PDBHS staff worked as a team to make this event a success. The department received great feedback and appreciation from persons in attendance. Snacks and gift cards were provided from Roger Brown's Sports Bar, Jimmy John’s, and Dollar Tree to promote this positive community project. More than 150 people registered for the event, and everyone had a great time while receiving really important information on these issues.
Keeping the Portsmouth Family aware and engaged.
