Human Resource Management presents a leadership academy program to promote continuous leadership learning and professional development! This program will offer a wide range of leadership skill development topics to participants. It is designed to benefit the New Portsmouth and empower participants to elevate the city’s brand image and lead city employees.  The ultimate goal is to become the best municipal government that communicates, collaborates, and celebrates with the community.

Our leadership program runs less than a year and consists of a combination of classroom instruction and practicum. With this curriculum structure, participants will be able to apply the knowledge they gained from the training. Various leadership topics will be facilitated by Human Resource Management, current city leadership, and guest speakers. The program will cover various facets of leadership skill development with post-training support and outcome measure assessments.

This program is for current supervisors who want to participate in a challenging leadership development academy program. 

This program runs less than a year with a series of 4-hour training sessions each month. 

This academy will require an application process to gain commitment from the potential participants and support from their department head.

The classroom sessions will take place in the Human Resource Management Training Room located on the 2nd floor of 
City Hall.

Competitive applicants who demonstrate leadership qualities are ideal candidates.

GLA applications, including the applicant’s resume and department head’s recommendation are due to Human Resource Management by October 5, 2018.

Emerging Leadership Academy (ELA)

This program is a competitive 9-month leadership development program with a series of 2-hour training sessions for current supervisors and those who aspire to learn leadership skills. This program is designed to enhance and develop your leadership abilities and effectiveness through:  understanding and awareness of concepts and techniques relevant to leadership practices; broader understanding of leadership; and interactive learning and effective communication.  The overall goals of the grogram are:

* Learn and use the best practices to assess and develop your own leadership skills.

* Develop individual leadership skills with enhanced knowledge and develop an effective plan.

* Work on real issues/challenges with confidence.

* Increase engagement and commitment to the city and the community.

This academy will require an application process to gain commitment from the potential participants and support from their department head.
