The Buzz is a weekly summary disseminate important information about mosquitoes and mosquito control in the City of Portsmouth.
Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
  • City wide activity remains a 2 this week due to the regional presence of West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
  • The staff has been very busy dealing with increased mosquito populations from the heavy rains a few weeks ago. Most of our efforts this week have been directed towards controlling salt marsh mosquitoes in Churchland.
Air Force Aerial Mosquito Spraying
The Air Force Aerial Spray team is in town this week and next. They are scheduled to start spraying parts of the peninsula this afternoon. Some areas in Portsmouth (everything in Portsmouth north of the western freeway, including Craney Island and the Navy Fuel Depot) are currently scheduled to be sprayed Saturday October 11, 2008 (weather permitting). Spray operations will be conducted between the hours of 4:00 pm and sunset. The back up spray days are Sunday October 12th or Monday October 13th.

Specific details on the spray operations will be posted on the City's Mosquito Hotline 393-8666 once they are available.
