City Wide Average Asian TIeger Mosquito Trap Counts
Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
  • City wide activity remains a 2 this week due to the regional
presence of West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
  • Tropical storm Hanna delivered an average of 1 inch of rain. This rain was not enough to flood up mosquito habitats and no significant increases in mosquito populations are expected.
  • Full time staffing levels are now at 60% as a result staff will begin transitioning to fall activities 6 weeks early this year. We will maintain limited spray capabilities for the remainder of the season. Normal day to day operations will shift predominantly towards maintenance and source reduction efforts.
  • This is the last regular weekly issue of The Buzz this season. The final Buzz for 2008 should be distributed by mid December.
Surveillance and Control
  • This is the last week we will be trapping mosquitoes this year. Surveillance efforts over the next few weeks will rely on site inspections, complaint calls, and general field observations.
  • 5 OFP traps were set this week, 95 tiger mosquitoes were caught. The average number of tiger mosquitoes per trap was 19. Tiger mosquito populations could increase any time over the next 6 weeks if we get significant rain.
  • We are still getting a few complaint calls each week. Complaint calls are projected to follow normal a normal pattern for the rest of the season.
  • No truck fogging activities are currently scheduled at this time.
  • Information on spray activities is posted on the Mosquito Spray Hotline (393-8666 press 1 when prompted). Citizens can call and listen to a recorded message to find out what areas are scheduled for mosquito spraying.
