The Buzz is a weekly summary
disseminate important information about mosquitoes and mosquito
control in the City of Portsmouth.
Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
City wide activity remains a 2 this week due to the regional
presence of West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
We recorded trace amounts of rain fall last week.
Only a few complaint calls were received this week.
Surveillance and Control
With team work and double shifts the crew was able to
complete citywide truck spraying operations last Friday night.
No traps were set this week due to the holiday shortened
work week.
Efforts this week focused on catching up on the back log of
complaints and making preparations for possible heavy rain fall
from the tropical rain expected late this week.
We will conduct a standard storm assessment once the system
clears our area and then redirect control operations as needed.
Information on spray activities will be posted on the
Mosquito Spray Hotline (393-8666 press 1 when prompted).
Citizens can call and listen to a recorded message to find out
what areas are scheduled for mosquito spraying.
