The Buzz is a weekly summary disseminate important information about mosquitoes and mosquito control in the City of Portsmouth.
Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
  • City wide activity remains a 2 this week due to the regional presence of West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
  • We recorded trace amounts of rain fall last week.
  • Only a few complaint calls were received this week.
Surveillance and Control
  • With team work and double shifts the crew was able to complete citywide truck spraying operations last Friday night.
  • No traps were set this week due to the holiday shortened work week.
  • Efforts this week focused on catching up on the back log of complaints and making preparations for possible heavy rain fall from the tropical rain expected late this week.
  • We will conduct a standard storm assessment once the system clears our area and then redirect control operations as needed.
  • Information on spray activities will be posted on the Mosquito Spray Hotline (393-8666 press 1 when prompted). Citizens can call and listen to a recorded message to find out what areas are scheduled for mosquito spraying.
